The power of Love

“For God so love the world, that he gave….”

John 3: 16

There was a story that kept ringing in my subconscious as I was about to write this. Um, @newnaija and story telling:

In a fellowship gathering  in a boarding school setup. The students know it is compulsory to attend the fellowship which they do grudgingly.

The first preacher was one of those you could term christianee with the dressing screaming modesty. He started his sermon and soon was taken over with holy anger. He was quoting one scripture after the other threatening brimstone and fire of hell. He was consumed with passion listing all forms of sins and its repercussion. “The wicked shall be turn to hell and all the nation that forget God”…

After the powerful message which was full of fear, torment and terror of hell; he made an altar call which to his amazement none showed willingness to yield their life.

Another preacher stood up to preach. He wore a T-shirt and a simple denim trouser. He started with the same text of John 3: 16 but layed emphasis on the LOVE of God. How ones wayward life saddens God and He is calling us all back like the prodigal son. He caught the attention of the students and before he finished the message, most of the students rushed to the front to give their life.

The first preacher was taken aback and asked the second preacher what happened.

********

What I am actually looking at in this story is the fact that we should quit being judgemental, condemning people! Its  time we show our faith to our world by living in love. God loves sinners but hates sin. Some people are actually waiting for us to extend the hand of love towards them for them to give their lives. You are an ambassador of Christ therefore show forth Christ-like love and faith.

  1. God’s love and mercy abound to “whosoever” that call out in faith. Those that judge others forgot that they are sinners in God’s eyes. God don’t see as men do. God bless you.

  2. Yeah, this is something I’ve thought about quite a bit – the tendency of Christians to try to scare people into the faith. It’s something that really needs to be worked on.
