Faith Series – Isaacola AA

Last week we discussed about pruning but today we will be looking at “Character building”. We all remember the gift of the Spirit ( Corinthians 12) but I will be focusing on the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5.22 -23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. New American Standard Bible.

I am sure we are familiar with the gifts of the Spirit and it is the emphasis of many but I believe christianity is based on the content of our character not charisma.

The gifts are always employed for a specific purpose and I don’t mean to talk lightly of the gift which I strongly believe in but I want us to focus on the fruit because this is where we interface with the world.

Now, what  I am saying is that when the Lord wants to build any of the fruits (virtue or character)  in an individual, he places you in the exact opposite situation of the said character.

Let’s look at love for instance, it is easy to love people that love us. Meaning it is very easy to love the lovable people but for God to teach you to love unconditionally like Him, He places you in the midst of un-lovable and un-appreciative people that will push you to the limit. When you come out successful you begin to love all kinds of people regardless of what they do or not do to or for you.

Also, when the fruit of joy is the goal, you begin to move from situations that are depressing and demoralising until you get to the level of totally trusting the Lord for joy regardless of what happened or is happening to you. Remember Paul and Silas were busy praising God in the prison and the scripture said, the prisoners heard them. Which means they were in prison but they were not prisoners.

God teaches us to walk in His peace in the midst of turbulence . Patience also become a prominent virtue in our lives after passing through so many disappointments. Mention all the virtues in Gal 5.22 to 23 and you will find out that all the saints of God  passed through contrary situations to build the godly character in them at one time or the other in their walk with God.

Whenever you find yourself in such situation, don’t initially think of sin but look inward , the Lord may be building a virtue into you.

Stay blessed.

  1. For the trying of our faith works patience. As we know, Fruit don’t just grow. They are gradually nurtured till maturity. That’s what the Holy Spirit do for us. This might just be why the scriptures says “Those who sow in tears shall reap in Joy”.

  2. You are absolutely right. God works in ways that are not our ways,so we need to ask Him the purpose of that trial we are going through so we don’t get to blame ourselves for situations that are God ordained to instill his goodness in us. God bless you. May God continue to impart more knowledge&virtue to keep up the good work.
