It’s Easter period and all over the world, we are celebrating the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus who sacrificed His life for us that we may have eternal life. The death of Christ simply signifies how much God loves us and how far he is willing to go for us.
There is no greater love than the one shown to us on the cross. A man without blemish dying on the cross of Calvary that we may be holy, righteous and worthy enough to have a direct communication with God. In all of the world, even with the parents that gave birth to me, I’ve never found any love so great and constantly we are being reminded of how much God loves, how He sent His son for us, how He sacrificed his life that we may live eternally and all of that but have we ever sat down to think of how much we love God?
Many of us don’t even know what it is to love the man that died for us that we may be holy. We attend church services like no other person, our voice is the loudest while praying, we sing with so much passion and yet we do not love the Lord. We are so caught up with activities that we forget what it really is to serve God. Serving God is loving our neighbours like ourselves just as God commanded us to do. How can you love God that you can’t see when you hate the people around you? 1st John 1 vs 10 says whoever claims to love God, yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. Loving God starts with loving the next person to you. Catering to their needs and forgiving them just as Christ did for you every time you nail him on the cross again by sinning or going against His will.
1st John 4 vs 12 also says that No one has ever seen God but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us. John 13 vs 35 says By this, everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another. Maybe we should all take our time to read Mathew 25 vs 35-40 where God made us to understand that littlest love and kindness we show to our neighbour is indirectly to him. Do we love our neighbours just as God commanded? Don’t we form our own groups of “righteous people” and forsake the rest saying they do not share the same faith with you? Are you part of the many christians that only smile and then inwardly condemn our neighbours. Maybe we should ask ourselves how much we deserved God’s love that He chose to go through the pain and shame for us before we judge our neighbours or not forgive them. No one truly deserves the love shown on the cross of Calvary. If you do not deserve the love of Christ and yet he took all the pains for you that you may be reconciled with God, then you have no excuse to hate anybody. Love your neighbour as yourself even as Christ love us all.
