Mind your thought

MIND YOUR THOUGHT

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he….

Proverbs 23:7

“Watch your thoughts, they become words;
watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

FRANK OUTLAW
Late President of the Bi-Lo Stores

We have heard it say all through our growing years to mind our thought. I will like to share this simple story that illustrate the maxim so well.

I remembered it like yesterday clearly . I went home to the village to see my grandma somewhere in Ekiti state over a decade ago. Funny enough it was on a valentine day in quote. I met my ex girl friend and we just said hi and everyone departed to his or personal space. Either deliberately or by mistake, she exposed her lap surreptitiously sowing some dangerous seed into my mind. Mind you, I call it quit with her four years ago. That was the first time I am seeing her after the breakup.

One thing led to the other and the thought of what we’ve done in the past flew past me. I begin to think seriously about those so-called wonderful time. Before you could say Jack, she came into my room. Intending to discuss about our so-called animosity that resulted from our break (she was my first and only girl friend and I was her first too). You and I know that the intention is questionable especially coming at night.

He had a heated argument that ended up in us romping it out under the sheet. I was born again then and she also claimed born again. But we ended up committing SIN. Why did that happen? The simple answer is that, my dominant thought after the indecent exposure was just how to have a go at her once again. Don’t think about what you don’t want to happen to you.

When your main thought is all about negatives. You will end up attracting negativity to yourself friends, if all you think about all day long is about committing sin, you will end up committing that sin. Mind what you think. Because there is this supernatural force that draws whatever your dominant thought is to YOU.

It is scriptural and I am here admonishing you friends. Don’t join the band wagons going out to satisfy your fleshly desires. Think on those good things the scripture mention. “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things”. Philippians 4:8. NKJV

  1. God help us O!. Especially those of us wey our ministry na to all brethren and the best way to show love and commitment is to be close to our object of ministry!
    Anyway for me, PRAYER is the key O, cos it is hard to think right when these thoughts are overwhelming. PRAYER however will overwhelm these thoughts and that’s when our minds can remember scriptures after all, scriptures have said ..”no temptation has seized us that we are not capable of overcoming through the help of God who provides a way out”.
    “Oh Lord, we need not fear cos you are bound to always provide a way out, so that we rather than fall, will testify of your deliverance from evil just like you promised us; bad thoughts come and go through our minds and that will continue but you oh Lord and your covenant to keep us, will remain the same forever”
